Earlier this year I wrote about how the Colorado voting system is effectively “rigged” to enforce a two-party system. In that I said “In Colorado, if you are not registered with political affiliation, you are given two ballots; one Democrat and one Republican. This forces you to vote along party lines even if you do not fully support either party.” However, it is much worse, and weirder.
First, there are more than two parties of course. In 2026 there are two major parties but eight minor parties. You likely know about the Democratic and Republic parties, and perhaps the Libertarian party. That leaves seven more you may not be aware of. I am not registered as affiliated with any part; I am independent. Personally I do not find any one part to magically have all of the answers and the best vision forward. As such I would prefer to be able to vote for whoever I want that is running for a given position. I should be able to cross party lines.
As warned months ago, I would be able to vote for either the Democratic or the Republican ballot. Why am I not receiving any of the other party ballots? If I am independent then I should be able to choose any of the parties to vote with. This is how the system is rigged to maintain the two party status quo. I understand about concerns over splitting the vote, but I also don’t think our country is thriving with the current two-party system either. This is where it gets weirder…

These are the two ballots I received. Notice anything odd? Like the fact that Republicans can write in a name for governor and Democrats cannot. Other than absurd voting regulations that somehow allow this, I cannot fathom why this is allowed.
Our political system needs serious reform in so many ways. This is just one of many that I feel needs to change.
