The Jericho Blog Graveyard (2016 – 2020)

This is a continuing short run series of blogs summarizing old drafts and either declaring them dead, while listing them here, or keeping them as they are still relevant.

Part 1 – The Jericho Blog Graveyard (2010 – 2013)
Part 2 – The Jericho Blog Graveyard (2014 – 2015)

Part three:

  • 2016 – Extensive notes from a group chat at RBS about how bad the 2016 DBIR report was, numerous errors in it, and more.
  • 2016 – (Dec 26) “it’s 2017… forget the flying cars”, griping about Google accounts and auth flow, browsers hitting 1.5g RAM use and not warning, the state of InfoSec, and how videos play at 100% volume despite hundreds of cookies to track everything else
  • 2017 – Minimal notes on how to contribute to the Errata project
  • 2017 – “Phone upgrade woes” about annoyances of upgrading a Samsung device
  • 2018 – “The Curious Case of Five Minarets in New York” thoughts on why that movie was so hard to find, yet 92% on Rotten Tomatoes at the time
  • 2018 – “MyUHC” covering some of my many, many gripes with that shitty insurance provider and their even shittier pharmacy
  • 2018 – “Microsoft Windows; a ‘Genuine’ Pain in the Ass” talking about how the ‘Genuine’ experience was a pain, the nag pop-ups, and inability to find help via Microsoft due to lack of details and at least one article that was 404
  • 2018 – “Can we please stop calling them smart TV’s” griping about so-called “Smart” TVs and many of the annoyances and failures
  • 2019 – “London” notes about my recent trip there, but primarily focused on my experience at two Michelin restaurants including Savoy by Gordan Ramsay
  • 2019 – “Art of Grinding – Guild of Heroes” thoughts about ‘grinding’ in MMORPGs, and gripes about a recent update to Guild of Heroes.
  • 2019 – “pure vocal talent” – Commentary on the raw talent of Freddy Mercury
  • 2020 – “security bios and lying” about noticing how InfoSec people really exaggerated in bios frequently, citing an example of someone who magically gained 12 years of security experience in a few years, based on former and current bio
  • 2020 – “UI/UX ideas” criticizing many apps for having bad User Interface / User Experience issues, including Shazam, Google Maps, Waze, and more.
  • 2020 – “OptumRX med changes” griping about how UHC’s pharmacy would arbitrarily swap my insulins without consulting my doctor, which I believe is illegal
  • 2020 – “2020 Charity Drive” was a few notes about the charity auctions I did, would have summarized the results, and thanked four people for sending stuff to auction: Lei, Ming, Roamer, Sidragon
  • 2020 – “Hotels Have Lost Sight” with a list of complaints about various hotels and poor design choices that may look better, but infuriate customers
  • 2020 – “OSVDB, FIN, and Lessons Learned” for this, it was half written and half raw notes with Tweets I had replied to, or would in the blog. Since it captures some history around the project, I posted it as-is.
  • 2020 – “Android Voice-to-Text” gripes about the technology, and while still very relevant I will cover it in a different blog at some point with screenshots

Interestingly enough, I found a dump of notes for a blog from 2003 and another from 2009. Both about InfoSec topics like the full disclosure debate, and an overview of security advisories along with history and absurdity.

Three drafts from 2020 may still be relevant, with updates, so will remain in that state.

With this pass, down to 80 drafts to review!
