As many know, I have eagerly been awaiting the game Squirrel With a Gun for quite a while. I even have the SWaG plushie! So imagine my disappointment when I try to play and run into… needing to install Microsoft Visual C++ (which requires a reboot… in 2024). None of the other steam games require this, that’s annoying. So I download and install and the game loads!
Then you get four splash screens of different studios or whatever you have to hit enter past each. This is annoying when you have to do it half a dozen times in an hour due to game crashes.

Speaking of the crashes, each time it kicks you back to the start of the save point, which in the case of the first area, is the beginning of the game. This is a serious design oversight in my opinion since you can’t trigger a save yourself. Fortunately, if you die a glorious squirrel death you start back about where you left off. Again, unless the game crashes then you are screwed. That also means you have to through a long animation sequence as you face your first agent, that you can’t skip past.
So far, that means this game is a serious let down and an insult to squirrels with or without a gun.
[8/31/2024 Update: I joined the game developer’s discord server and received support. They are looking into it but believe that if I disable the ‘fur strands’ option, which defaults to ‘on’, it may fix the issue. After my feedback, they confirmed they are also looking at some form of auto-saving to better alleviate the headaches of getting sent so far back and losing progress.]
