Rants of a deranged squirrel.

The Voice of Technology Past

The other day, my mother dropped by before we went to lunch. She handed me a piece of paper folded into thirds with something solid inside. She told me i sent it to her some time ago for safe keeping. The letter simply read “This is the material I told you about. Please save this somewhere safe.” Included, was a 3 1/2 inch floppy disk. I remember sending it to her when I lived in Arizona, shortly after a less-than-friendly visit by the FBI. Seeing the floppy made me laugh, because none of my computers have a floppy drive. Fortunately, I had kept around an old USB-based floppy drive on the off chance I would ever need it.

Volume in drive A has no label.
Volume Serial Number is 0000-0000

Directory of A:\

Oh, that’s right, the logs from a couple computers that the FBI did not confiscate, just mirrored the hard drive of. The logs that show that they did not follow proper forensic procedure in copying the information. The logs that show an FBI agent or technician executed commands such as ‘vi’ and ‘rm’ while logged into the machine as root. You know, evidence that the FBI either tried to plant evidence, or at the very least invalidated any evidence collected.
